Columbia University Architecture (formerly the Columbia School of Mines) is the fourth oldest architecture school in America, which was founded in 1881 by William R. Ware, a former student of Richard Morris Hunt (the first American to attend the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris). And since its inception until now, the program remains the core architecture of the intellectuals in this school.

The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University in New York City, or also known as GSAPP, regarded as one of the most important architectural schools and prestigious in the world. GSAPP also home to the respected Masters of Science in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, and Development of Real Estate.

With the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library, which is the library of the greatest architects in America, and home to some of the first books published in the architecture, as well as the origin Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, make this school as a source of knowledge in the field of architecture.

Through curriculum and philosophy applied stress, as well as a commitment to combine professional training and research, students in this school are educated and prepared to be a reliable practitioner who is able to achieve the specialization of each field with a sustained professional experience.

And to realize and provide better service quality, dean of the school at this time, Amale Andraos, recently have included the architect James Stewart Polshek, noted architectural theory and deconstructivist architect Bernard Tschumi and Mark Wigley.

Students can choose programs that have been provided by the school in accordance with their respective interests, which include Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, Historic Preservation, Real Estate Development, Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices in Architecture, PH.D. in ArchitecturePH.D in Urban Planning, and Introduction to Architecture.

In addition, students can also join and participate in the various activities organized by the school, for example by engaging in a variety of research, courses and so forth.
